University of Hawai'i at Mānoa students' fall tuition will be $50 cheaper than it could have been had the Board of Regents approved a proposed athletic fee.

Associated Students of the University of Hawai'i (ASUH) President Mark Ing said he was told by UH Mānoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw, in whose hands the athletic fee currently rests during the approval process, that the fee will not be on the BOR's agenda this summer and probably won't be implemented in either the fall or spring semester.

The athletic fee would have given about $2 million annually to the financially strapped athletic department.

In an April survey conducted by ASUH, 77 percent of UH students voted against the athletic fee.

UH is the only school in the Western Athletic Conference that doesn't have an athletic fee.
