Cheers to Ethan Mills for telling it like it is in the April 2 Ka Leo O Hawai'i ("War not the answer for peace"). Outside of some foreign media, this is one of the few pieces that I have read that actually assert that there are other ways to solve the "Iraq problem" other than with brute force. Unlike many pro-war hawks within this nation that think that they are right and you are wrong (and as such, you should be expelled from the country), Mills bothers to give some reasons as to why a person could be pro-war besides just a knee-jerk reaction.

People that are anti-war are not so blind as to not see what Hussein and his regime are doing, but they do see that there are other ways to go about solving this problem. Its like I was told when I was a very young boy: theres more than one way to skin a cat. Theres more than one way to remove Saddam Hussein from Iraq.

The problem now is that since the hawks had to have their way, people like W (George W.) have opened an enormous Pandoras Box. It wont be much longer, I believe, before we will all be at the point where we have to choose to live on our knees (think terror warning system) or die on our feet. This is living in fear. Think about all the factors and players in this current scenario. Youve got one country that is not very friendly to Arabs in a part of the world that is predominantly Arab, trying to remove, by brute and lethal force, an Arab leader. You can have all the public relations degrees, skills and savior faire and still see that this is just going to lead to more trouble down the road especially if the Allies cannot win the peoples hearts and minds.

While I cheer Ethan Mills, I must jeer Pablo W. (who I thought was living comfortably in Mississippi). I tried to ignore his spiel on April 1 ("Trend of European bigotry lacks respect") because of its senseless and ludicrous ranting. Unfortunately, Pablo W. seems to think that somehow the phrase "cowboy attitude" is meant as a slap in the face to real cowboys. This is all part of a weak attempt to link Hawaiian culture to Gulf War II. Its a METAPHOR, W! The image that most people conjure up of a cowboy is a wild guy on a horse raising Cain everywhere. That probably is not what a real cowboy does, but that sure is what Dubya is doing!

Look at the past few years in since Bush regime took hold: taunting other nations by labeling them part of an "axis of evil" (even if it is true, a statesman is supposed to be professional and not resort to second grade tactics; whats next, sending e-mails with viruses and threatening phone calls?), squandering international sympathy, ignoring, or basically shooting the bird, at the entire international community, and wrecking the economy (its not a great time to be graduating and looking for a job). And lets not forget that the price tag for Gulf War II is $75,000,000,000.00. Or, at least for right now thats the price.

Yes, France probably shows less than a warm welcome to immigrants, but I can guarantee you that most other countries do too (including England). Singling out France because of her desire to not fight is really childish.

What a fine example of typical American behavior because some other nation had the audacity to disagree. I guess an invasion of France would be in order especially since the US House bothered to take the time to rename French fries "freedom fries" in the House cafeteria. Whats next, "freedom braids", the "freedom horn", the "Freedom Quarter", "freedom bread"? Give me a break. Grow up. The French influence upon American culture is permanent.

And Tony Blairs job, a wise one, is on the line. He does not have as much support as you believe him to have. Quite a bit of humanity is against this war. Protests have been held on every inhabited continent. Public opinion is turning against both the U.S. and the U.K. And you dare call the leader of one of these nations "hope" for the future?

If this is the hope, pass the dope.
