Fans attending today’s Warrior tennis match against No. 12 Louisville at 3 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex will receive free slices of Papa John’s pizza, while supplies last.
Rainbow Wahine Water Polo
The No. 5 Rainbow Wahine water polo team will scrimmage the defending Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champion, No. 1 USC, today at 4 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
The Rainbow Wahine (9-6, 1-2 MPSF), who are on a three-game winning streak, are coming off a 9-8 six-overtime win over the No. 4 UCLA Bruins on March 5, in the longest match in UH history. The USC Trojans defeated UH in their last meeting, 14-7, in Los Angeles.
Admission to the match is free to the public, and each time UH scores a goal, a fan will have a chance to win a Jack in the Box food coupon. T-shirts will also be tossed into the stands after each quarter.
Rainbow Wahine Softball
The Rainbow Wahine softball team is coming off a 4-1 victory over the DePaul Blue Demons on Sunday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine(18-9) clinched the 2010 Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament title with the win and will host the 2010 Chevron Spring Fling tournament Wednesday, March 17,through Saturday, March 20.
The tournament will include No. 13 California and Lipscomb, with each team playing each other three times. The team with the best overall tournament record wins the tourney title.
Freshmen shortstop Jessica Iwata, junior third baseman Melissa Gonzalez and junior designated player Jenna Rodriguez made the all-tournament team. Sophomore Stephanie Ricketts received the Most Outstanding Pitcher award, while freshman center fielder Kelly Majam was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Majam leads the offensive attack with a .393 batting average and10 home runs. The team has amassed 53 home runs on the season, averaging 1.96 per game.
The Rainbow Wahine open against Lipscomb Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. On Thursday, March 18, they will play a doubleheader against California at 5 p.m. and Lipscomb at 7 p.m.
UH will play a single game against California at 6 p.m. on Friday and conclude with an afternoon doubleheader on Saturday with Lipscomb at noon and California at 2 p.m. Admission to all softball games is free and fans may participate in Ball Park Bingo for a chance to win prizes from tournament sponsor Chevron.
Rainbow Wahine Volleyball
The Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will host its annual spring match on Thursday, against the University of Arizona Wildcats at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai‘i finished its 2009 campaign ranked No. 3 in the country and made its ninth NCAA Championship appearance, ending their season in the Final Four.
The Wildcats also made an appearance in the NCAA tournament last season and finished the year 19-11 overall. The Rainbow Wahine finished 32-3.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for students and UH students. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and the first 300 fans will receive Phiten Discs.
