The Ka Leo headline "Big Cause There, No Effect Here: Chilean 8.8-magnitude earthquake fails to generate anticipated tsunami" in your 3/1/2010 issue regarding the tsunami is plain wrong. A tsunami *was* observed at many locations around Hawaii, though it didn't cause serious damage or injuries. That is because 1) its arrival time was well predicted and appropriate warnings issued, and 2) it was at the low end of the predicted range. Your coverage does however cause damage in that it leaves the wrong impression with readers regarding the effectiveness of the tsunami warning system for Hawaii. If readers fail to heed warnings in the future, you will have contributed to putting them at greater risk.
Angela from Chile.
if you could see the damage, the total devastation, and the pain of the people here in Chile specially near to the coast, cities that disapeared under the waves after the earthquaquake....hundreds of people that died...you should be glad that all you guys spend your important time just sitting there watching to the sea and get "disappointed" insted to be wondering if your family and friends are alive and if you will have food or water for tomorrow. This kind of things are serious an painfull not a show or entretaiment to be watching like you discribe.
