The freshman defender was named MVP of the Western Athletic Conference tournament this past weekend after helping UH pitch two straight shutout wins over Utah State and Fresno State. Those wins propelled Hawai‘i to its first-ever WAC Tournament title and NCAA bid.
Deptula, who was named second-team all-WAC last week, has recently elevated her game to another level, leading a defense that has posted five straight shutout wins and six in the last seven matches.
Deptula joins teammate Ambree Ako, who has earned the Soccer Buzz accolade twice already this season. Former Rainbow Wahine Natasha Kai and Jessica Uecker are the other UH players to earn the honor.
Hawai‘i (15-4-2) continues its season on Friday when it plays its first-ever NCAA tournament match. UH faces host Colorado in a first-round match.
