"We get a chance to see where our former players have gone and how much they have developed and changed," said UH head coach Bob Coolen. "They (the alumnae players) seem much more relaxed."
There are some familiar faces on the roster for the alumnae team, which include 2007 Western Athletic Conference player of the year Tyleen Tausaga and current assistant coaches Dee Wisneski and Kristi Yoshizawa.
Other Rainbow Wahine alumnae who are scheduled to play continue to have ties with the sport. These players include Joyce (Antonio) Kong, UH tournament director; Rose Antonio, current softball head coach for the Mililani Trojans; Kehau (Cofran) Aina, Kalāheo softball head coach; Aiko (Okamura) Gojo, Punahou JV softball head coach (as well as former Saint Francis head coach and Roosevelt High assistant coach); and Joyce Lum, former Kamehameha Maui softball head coach. They join former Rainbow Wahine Reina (Ka‘aihili) Teramoto, Dawn Hirayama, Noelle Izumi and Marie Jackson on the squad.
The Rainbow Wahine softball team is coming off four wins in their last fall ball scrimmage tournament held earlier this month. The Rainbow Wahine finished the 2007 season ranked No. 12 in the nation in the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association poll with a 16-2 WAC finish and 50-13 overall record. The team was also nationally recognized for for sweeping the top awards in the WAC.
The 2008 Rainbow Wahine squad consists of 21 players, 18 of which are veteran players, as head coach Bob Coolen enters his 17th season with the Rainbow Wahine. The game is open to the public and admission is free. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 16.
