Virgina Hinshaw was officially inaugurated as chancellor of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Tuesday at Kennedy Theatre.

Among the guests that joined to celebrate her inauguration were Gov. Linda Lingle and UH President David McClain.

Before coming to UH, Hinshaw was the executive vice chancellor at the University of California, Davis. Hinshaw replaced interim Chancellor Denise Konan at the beginning of the fall 2007 semester.

Hinshaw holds a bachelor's degree in laboratory technology, as well as a master's and doctorate in microbiology, all from Auburn University. She is well-known for her work on influenza viruses over the past 25 years.

Hinshaw said in her inauguration speech that one of her main priorities is to address the problem of deteriorating facilities on campus.
