Despite a rocky start to the 2008 Western Athletic Conference season, the Rainbow Wahine basketball team continues their four-game road trip Thursday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.
The Fresno State Bulldogs are 8-8 overall on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the WAC. The Bulldogs are currently on a six-game win streak after they defeated the Idaho Vandals 68-59 Saturday night.
Bulldogs head coach Adrian Wiggins holds a 49-25 record during his time with Fresno State. Senior center Erica Henry was named the WAC player of the week for the week of Jan. 7 and was also the student-athlete of the week for that same week after her performances against Louisiana Tech and Boise State.
The 6-foot-2 center helped the Bulldogs secure a 75-52 win over Louisiana Tech and a 73-63 victory against preseason WAC favorite Boise State. In the matchup against the Lady Techsters, Henry recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and four steals. In the win over the Broncos, Henry put up eight points, five rebounds, two steals and a single block.
In the Rainbow Wahine's last game, senior forward Tanya Smith recorded her sixth straight double-double and 11th double-double overall for the 2008 basketball season, while at the same time tying her season-high record of 17 rebounds and 14 points.
The 'Bows currently lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs with a win-loss record of 25-14. The last time both teams met, in March 2007, Fresno State defeated Hawai‘i 72-46. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. HST.
