Why is it important to UH Mānoa?
According to recent statistics, one in four Hawai‘i residents can trace their ancestry back to the Phillipines.
Where is it now?
After an outpouring of public support, HB 3398 passed the House Higher Education Committee and is now being reviewed by the House Finance Committee. If approved, it must then pass through both the House and Senate.
When is it hoped to be implemented?
July 1, 2008.
What is the Public's Reaction?
"I believe that these courses are important not only for Filipino students who would like to know about their cultural heritage, but also for those people who are interested in the Philippines," said Elena Clariza, a graduate student in the Library and Information Science Program.
